WHAT IS BOWEN?
Named after its founder, Thomas Bowen (1916-1982), the Bowen Technique is a gentle therapy which creates a state of relaxation by balancing tension patterns in the body.
Bowen is a gentle complementary therapy which affects the fascia (connective tissue), nerves, and internal organs, as well as the musculoskeletal framework. It also boosts the body's system of pain relief, balance and well-being by stimulating the lymphatic system and central nervous system.
Bowen encourages the body to reset, repair, realign, restore and balance itself. By working with the body as a whole, Bowen encourages the body to make the changes it needs, aiming to treat the cause of the problem rather than changing or treating specific symptoms. For example, a shoulder problem could originate from the hip area, and treating the symptoms will only mask the real problem. More information: What are the benefits of Bowen?
Bowen promotes healing on physical, chemical, emotional, mental and energetic levels, and there aren’t many conditions that it can’t improve.
Bowen is usually applied through light clothing, and since there is no hard tissue manipulation it is safe for pregnant women, babies, and the elderly and infirm.
